Sack gabions are cylindrical wire mesh boxes of 0.50m – 1.00m diameter and 1.00 – 3.00m height (the gabion dimensions are specified in the protection works technical report). They are reinforced with wires of wider diameter that run down the sack from top to bottom. Sack gabions are used for slope stabilization, protection of the bottom of a slope, stream and river bed lining and other works. They are also used as the foundations for other types of gabion applications since they are more easily positioned on the ground due to their flexibility and shape.
