Οι στρώμνες κατασκευάζονται από εξαγωνικό χαλύβδινο συρματόπλεγμα διπλής πλέξης βρογχου 6Χ8 και έχουν συνήθως μορφή παραλληλεπίπεδου διαφόρων διαστάσεων πλάτους από 2,00m και ύψους από 0.17m – 0,50m. Είναι όμοιες κατασκευές με τα συρματοκιβώτια άλλα πιο ελαφριές και εύκαμπτες. Εφαρμόζονται σε επενδύσεις πρανών, για την προστασία ποδός πρανών και κοιτοστρώσεις, σε ηπιότερες γενικά συνθήκες ροής.
